My, my how this summer has flown by! I can't believe it is already August! These first two months of summer have been busy - busy - busy! Brenda is asking me when I am going to stay home,

so I guess I better for a while! First Africa, Vacation Bible School, Pre-teen Camp, then Mexico. Well, it has been busy but it has been a great summer, and I am glad I am sleeping in my own bed for a while.

We have got several things coming up, but one of the biggest is the Marriage Retreat coming up September 10th-11th. The cost is going to be about $120.00 a couple. We will be staying at Lakeway Resort and Bro. Ronald and Willie O'Guinn will be our primary speakers for this event. Bro. Ron and Willie were with us last year sharing with us a series of messages on "Shearing the Shackles of Shame!" This will be retreat not just for young adults but for any age. There will be a sign up sheet on the sign up bulletin board.

Continue to contact your elected officials, look them up - study what they are voting on, get informed, and give them guidance. Remember your vote is not your own, you have been bought with a price!

There are many issues of concern - same sex marriage, stem cell research, the list goes on. Also on this note, if you are not registered to vote, register - it is your responsibility!

Lastly, we are getting the foundation plan back on the building, and the Sight Developmental Plan is getting finished up. Continue to pray for wisdom and guidance as we look at this relocation process to begin. Continue to pray and give as God gives you direction. I know it is going to come about, we just don't want to run ahead, nor do we want to lag behind!

New Church Directory

On November 11-13, 2004 we will be taking pictures for a new church directory. Please begin making plans now to have your family photographed on one of these days. More information will be coming soon.
What an incredible summer this has been! God has blessed us with so many opportunities to minister in His name and simply have fun doing it. Thank you to everyone who was involved in the Mexico Mission Trip – well done!

With August we will gear up for school starting and Sunday School promotion. We are excited to welcome our new seventh graders to the youth department on Sunday, August 15! I would also like to invite any youth who have not plugged into the youth program or have been disconnected to reconnect on Sunday, August 15. My prayer is that we will grow both spiritually and numerically though reaching out to the youth of San Marcos. This would also be a great time for adults to plug into the youth ministry. As we are growing, we need more leaders! Please contact me if you are interested in being a part of the youth ministry.

Let me share with you some details about a couple events we have planned for this fall. On September 10-11 we will be going on our annual fall campout. The cost for the campout is $25 and needs to be turned in by September 8. Undoubtedly, some youth will have obligations because of fall football schedules, but this is the only scheduled event we will do that will conflict with the regular season.

On the weekend of October 29-30 we will be doing a Student Underground Event. This event will be a simulation of what it would be like to live in an area where Christians are persecuted. We will need adults to help facilitate this experience for our youth. If you can help, please give me a call at 353-8540 or send an e-mail to ken@calvarysanmarcos.com.

How would you like to practice for heaven? Of course, as Christians we will be complete in Christ when we pass through the pearly gates, but being practiced up sounds good doesn't it? Well, we actually can practice for heaven. We will be singing in worship before the precious Lamb of God.

As far as I can tell this is one act of worship we know that we'll be doing.

We were created for it. So when we gather together as a body we should SING!

Sing as we practice for heaven. It will be hard on some days, and that's when we will listen to the words of the song and let others sing over us.

Other times we will be singing to exhort our Lord and edify his people. All the while practicing. . .

Speaking of practice. . . The choir is rehearsing at 4:45p.m. on Sundays.

If you aren't sure about joining in then come and watch a rehearsal. You are welcome to look at the music as we practice.

PRAY! Please pray for the music ministry. Pray about how you can be involved. In the coming weeks more opportunities will arise. Be praying about your participation now.

Serving Him,

Fred and Rosanna Haddock
Plan a family Game night:

Do you ever feel like your family time is planned by TV Guide? If you are ready to reclaim your evenings and experience quality time together, a family game night maybe the answer. The laughter, conversation, and the fun will strengthen the family bonds.

One of the biggest struggles of families is learning to communicate. When you interact in an enjoyable situation - you learn to communicate, something that doesn’t happen when you sit and watch a movie.

Start a Tradition: Select a night, set aside a time, share a meal, clean up together, pop some popcorn, and bring out the games!

Family game night is a simple way parents and children can experience life and laughter together. So let the games begin.

In His Service,

Joni

Our Men’s Ministry is in the planning stages of a concerned effort to make a difference in men’s lives. We are exploring ideas such as special events, out reach opportunities on a local level and building relationships of the men in our own congregation. More information to follow on these events.

Promise Keepers has planned a major two day event to be held at the Alamodome in San Antonio on August 27 - 28. We would like to take a large group, so begin planning now to attend. The Friday night meeting is about 4 hours long and then all day on Saturday. There will be music, singing, preaching and praying all to the glory of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. If your walk with the Lord needs a “jolt”, this will surely do it! If you’ve never been, you have to go to experience this powerful venue. If you’ve attended PK in the past, I know you want to go again. Cost is $79.00 per person, start saving today. Go to promisekeepers.org for more information. Contact the Church office to put your name on the list. God Bless - John Clarke Psalm 37:23
